Polishing Ruined Porcelain Veneer

I had a fantastic smile makeover done. I love it. I only had one criticism which I didn’t notice until I got home. It was a tiny scratch on one of my front veneers. I called the office. My dentist was great about it and said to come in the next day and he’d buff it out. He did, but now when I smile that one area looks like it has lost its shine. Could this have been damaged?

Dear Francine,

A porcelain veneer being placed on a tooth

I’m very glad you like your smile makeover. They can change a person’s life simply by the confidence they bring to someone. Just like there are varying skills in creating a beautiful smile, there are also varying skills in the technical aspects of repairing them.

This wasn’t repaired properly. This matte portion of your porcelain veneer will be much more susceptible to staining. That will look especially unattractive on your front tooth. The repair needs to be re-done; correctly this time.

Re-polishing Porcelain Veneers

Here’s the process your dentist needs to follow. Feel free to show him this post so he’ll know. A good cosmetic dentist is always happy to improve their knowledge and skills.

He’ll need some diamond polishing instruments and polishing paste, ending with an ultra-fine diamond polishing paste. Many expert cosmetic dentists prefer Brasseler’s Dialite porcelain polishing system to get back that glossy shine.

I hope this helps. Enjoy your gorgeous smile.
